The GIS Policy Council is overseeing the development of a modernized GIS Strategic Plan for West Virginia. The State Steering Committee, chaired by the State GIS Coordinator and appointed by the GIS Policy Council, is charged with development and implementation of the plan in collaboration with West Virginia's GIS community.
The Steering Committee has worked hard developing the Statewide GIS Strategic Plan. In order to make the planning process as transparent as possible; planning progress reports and drafts, as they become available, have been distributed among all members of the Steering Committee. On May 21st 2010, a very robust draft was discused committee members who worked hard over a four month period refining the document. On October 27th 2010 a final draft of the plan was be presented to the GIS Policy Council for approval.
